Ruben E. Archuleta has been a keynote speaker at historical, genealogical society events and symposiums
throughout Colorado, New Mexico and South Dakota.  Archuleta's presentations cover the Penitentes' history,
their rituals, their personal experiences, and the everyday life of the brotherhood.  The author's presentations
have been enhanced by his personal displays which include a
carreta de la muerte (death cart), a matraca
(wooden noise maker) and original  Penitente journals and
cuadernos (hand written prayer books).  While
working on
Land of the Penitentes Land of Tradition Archuleta accumulated an extensive collection of Penitente
items and photos.  A collection of some of the color photographs that he has taken are now on permanent exhibit
at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

Archuleta has also given motivational presentations to at-risk youth and other organizations using his personal
experiences that are documented in his book,
I Came From El Valle.  He details the problems that family
members encountered with alcoholism and domestic violence. The author also talks about growing up in an
impoverished home that lacked the basics that many took for granted, such as indoor plumbing, adequate
heating, meat, milk, toothbrush and toothpaste, and decent clothes for school.  He recalls wonderful memories of
his grandparents making up for these inadequacies with undying love, a clean home, and a strong Christian
background and work ethic.
This book is out of print but might be purchase through Amazon.com.

After publishing his third book Eppie Archuleta and the Tale of Juan de La Burra, Ruben and world renowned
weaver, Eppie Archuleta, have teamed up to participate in book signings and presentations in Colorado and New
Mexico.

Ruben's latest book
Penitente Renaissance, Manifesting Hope was a finalist in the 2007 New Mexico Book
Awards.  This book is a collection of some of his Penitente color photography and was edited by noted author
and scholar Marianne Stoller and includes an afterword written by Marta Weigle who is also a renowned New
Mexico author and scholar.  Radio personality, the late Paul Harvey, wrote a glowing review of this book.

Ruben spends his free time making furniture, holding book signings and lecturing, however recently he took up
sculpting.  His wood and stone sculpture work was exhibited along with other noted Colorado and New Mexico

Santeros
(traditional sculptors of saints) at the Golden, Colorado Foothills Art Center  during March-May of
2005.  Select pieces are available at the Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado and The Great Southwest
